About us

Where Experience Meets a Love for English

A global online English tutoring organisation helping students become confident, capable and thoughtful communicators.

Our story

The English Teacher began with a simple observation: most children don't struggle with English because they are not capable. They struggle because a lesson moved faster than their understanding, or slower than their curiosity.

Gauri taught for five years herself before founding The English Teacher, and built the team around teachers who share that same instinct for meeting a child where they are. With a decade of experience in online education and 15+ years of combined teaching experience across the team, we have helped students from around the world build stronger English skills through personalised, engaging and purposeful learning. What started as one-to-one lessons has grown into a small, carefully chosen board of teachers who share the same belief — that a child learns best when they feel understood.

Global experience

Our students learn from 30+ countries, including the USA, Canada, Europe, India and beyond. Between them they follow very different school systems, reading levels and academic calendars.

Teaching across those differences has taught us the most useful lesson of all: there is no single right way to explain something. There is only the way this particular child understands it.

Our teaching philosophy

Meet the student where they are

Every programme begins with an assessment of reading, writing, grammar and confidence — not with a chapter number.

Teach English as a language, not a subject

We want students to think in English and express themselves clearly, long after the lesson ends.

Progress you can actually see

Clear goals, weekly practice and regular assessments, shared openly with parents.

Personalised learning

No two learning roadmaps look the same. A Grade 4 student who reads fluently but freezes when writing needs a very different plan from a Grade 4 student who is still decoding words.

So we build the plan around the learner: the level they are at, the curriculum they follow, the pace that suits them and the goal they are working towards — whether that is a school report card, an IELTS band or simply the confidence to speak up in class.

The student journey

  1. Trial class. We meet your child, understand their level and listen to what you are hoping for.
  2. Learning roadmap. A structured plan with clear goals for the term ahead.
  3. Weekly lessons. Personalised teaching, purposeful homework and regular practice.
  4. Assessments. Regular tests to show what has been mastered and what comes next.
  5. Parent conversations. Direct communication with the teacher, throughout.

A note from our founder

From One Parent to Another

Hi, I'm Gauri Vohra, founder of The English Teacher—and, most importantly, a mother to a daughter.

As a parent, I understand how challenging it can be to keep up with a world that is changing so quickly. I believe education should never be about making children compete with one another. It should be about helping each child discover what they are capable of and giving them the right support to grow.

We look beyond grammar, vocabulary and textbooks, and work on the child as a whole—building strong communication, reading and writing skills, confidence, critical thinking and a genuine love for learning.

Because when a child finds confidence in their words, they begin to find confidence in themselves.
